Leadership

Steve Q. Mai
President and CEO at Impulse Fashion, Inc.
Steve Mai is the founder of Impulse Fashion, Inc., a clothier company headquartered in Los Angeles and with factories in Vietnam. Prior to forming Impulse Fashion, Steve worked as a Facilities Engineer and Contract Administrator with Bechtel Petroleum located near Bakersfield, California. While working for Bechtel and taking his business graduate courses, Steve developed a keen interest in international business, specifically in the country of Vietnam. After relocating to Downtown Los Angeles in 1996, Steve networked with local fashion designers to gain experience in the fashion and apparel industries.
In 1997, Steve successfully launched his first contemporary clothing line called “PREY” with his partner and designer Mayren Viray, which focused on novelty, fully-fashionable sweaters. Within their first season, “PREY” sweaters were sold to boutiques and department stores such as Fred Segal, Madison, Henri Bendel, Barneys New York, Intermix, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth, Bloomingdale, Macy’s, Hudson’s Bay and Lane Crawford.
In 2001, Steve traveled back to Vietnam to develop and cultivate his business relations and partnerships with apparel manufacturing factories. Over the past 20 years, Impulse Fashion, Inc. has grown to become a key apparel manufacturer for retailers such as Costco, Target, Wal-Mart and JCPenney. Today, Impulse Fashion owns 3 sewing factories in Vietnam, from HCMC to Hue, employing over 2,500 employees. His factories are WRAP certified and active participants in the Better Work Program, which promotes treating workers with dignity and respect while providing a safe work environment.
In Feb, 2020, Steve shifted his business’s focus to include the manufacturing of high quality cloth masks. With experience in design and apparel manufacturing, his team launched the “HOPE'' mask which quickly grew to become one of the most popular and safest cloth masks sold in the US and worldwide. Impulse Fashion Inc. (dba Pulse) quickly produced over 15 million branded masks for a major Health Insurance company and their subscribers to help slow down the 1st infection wave of COVID-19.
Steve received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Long Beach in 1991 and a Masters of Business Administration from California State University, Bakersfield in 1996.

The US-based Pulse & Caracal preside over three large sewing factories with over 2,500 employees from Ho Chi Minh City to Hue, Vietnam.
